Brett Wilson
Director
With as much energy as the city he calls home (Calgary), W. Brett Wilson never gets tired of bankrolling the right deal. A gutsy negotiator with a surprising eye for detail, this big city player with small town charm helped turn a maverick startup into the energy industry's leading investment bank, brokering thousands of financing and M&A (mergers and acquisitions) deals worth over $150 billion.
Growing up on the Saskatchewan prairie with a mother who did social work and a father who sold cars, Brett became what some would describe as a rare combination: a capitalist with a heart. Touched by his parents' commitment to give back to their own community, Brett promised to do the same – on a slightly bigger scale. Known for his flair for throwing a great party in support of a great cause, Brett is also one of Canada's most successful philanthropists, having given – and engaged others to give – tens of millions to nonprofit initiatives.
Brett translated his instincts for investing in the right people into major stakes in the energy, agriculture, real estate, sports and entertainment industries. Brett said, “I invested in UNO because it is an exciting project but my investment is also a call on the creativity and genius of its inventor – Ben Gulak. I really do expect UNO to evolve considerably from its prototype to whatever commercialization version becomes – and I am excited to be a key investor in this stage of the evolution of Ben Gulak and UNO.”
Semyon Dukach
Director
Semyon gained notoriety for his Blackjack prowess as a player on the MIT Strategic Investments Blackjack Team. Because of his success in the field, there are a number of books written about him, including Ben Mezrich’s Busting Vegas, as well as a recently released movie which was based upon his experiences at MIT. Founder and president of the MIT Amphibian Investments Team, Dukach holds an MS from MIT and a BS from Columbia. He was founder and CEO of Fast Engines, founder of Vert, Inc., and is a CEO mentor at the Cambridge Business Development Center. Recent projects include SMTP.com and GottaFlirt, investing in various start-ups, and, of course, running Blackjack Seminars. Through television appearances and interviews on ABC Primetime and CNN, Dukach is reaching a wider audience with his fascinating background and experiences. His other TV spots include a two-hour History Channel feature, a BBC special, and a National Geographic Channel documentary. Dukach has recently brought his skills and talents to the Uno project by joining the Board. |
